Here’s my advice. Fuck NaNoWriMo. Set yourself a new goal, a far simpler one. Here it is:
I will be a writer.
And he has this image which is priceless.

The thing is, he has a point. Writing compelling fiction is not simply a matter of churning out words. I’m pretty sure we all know this. If we don’t then we need to read some more.
The other thing is that the other POV has a point too. One of the big problems a lot of writers have is that they have trouble finding time to write. Yeah, you can say it is all a matter of prioritization and you’d be right but like a lot of things that are right, they are a bit more complicated than you’re letting on. Coming home after a hard day at work and writing for two hours is a lot harder than coming home after a hard day at work and watching TV. Things that encourage people to do the one thing that fundamentally makes a writer different from a non writer is a good thing.
