If you’re not familiar with PostSecret, it describes itself thussly:
PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard.
It is sometimes very touching and sometimes upsetting and sometimes it’s really just weird.
I like to look at it as a potential source for stories and wonder what the heck the lives of the people are like.
This week, someone wrote in saying “The person I think I am is preventing me from becoming the person I could be.” Well shit, doesn’t that happen to a metric shit-ton of people? The freaky cool thing about this as an idea is that it could be almost literally anything. It could be someone trapped in a high society lifestyle who finds it all cheap and tawdry and wants to escape to something real but isn’t sure how. Or it could be a gay high school kid who is the star quarterback and living up to the reputation for everyone else in a town where football is everything.
Someone wrote in saying they want to be Jewish. I wonder why and more, I wonder what’s stopping them.
Someone wrote in that they found a picture in the street of what appears to be a happy couple and they hope the couple is still that happy. Maybe they are and maybe they aren’t and maybe if whoever found the story tried to track them down it might lead to something interesting.
Someone wrote in saying that gay marriages need to be legalized everywhere because “I would watch the shit out of gay divorce court.”
Stick it in your RSS reader and who knows what kind of ideas you’re going to get.
